计量计量measurement为确定量值而进行的一组操作。中国古代称为度量衡，其原始含义是关于长度、容积和质量的计量，主要器具为尺、斗、秤。随着科技的进步、生产的发展，对计量的要求越来越高，计量的概念和内容也在不断变化和发展，遂形成了现代计量，并出现了研究计量理论和实践的专门学科——计量学。计量学是现代物理学的一个分支。比较成熟和普遍开展的计量有长度、力学、热工、电磁、无线电、时间频率、声学、光学、化学和电离辐射计量，即所谓的十大计量。而计量学的研究范围已突破物理量的范畴，扩展到化学和工程量乃至生理量和心理量等计量。研究内容包括单位、单位制；单位的基准、标准的建立；量值传递与检定测试；计量误差与数据处理；计量管理等。计量具有以下基本特点：①准确性。它表征计量结果与被计量的量的真值的接近程度。严格地说，只有量值而无准确度的结果不是计量结果。②一致性。计量单位的统一是量值统一的重要前提。无论在何时、何地，利用何种方法、器具，也无论何人进行计量，只要符合有关计量所要求的条件，计量结果就应在给定的误差范围内一致。否则，计量将失去其社会意义。③溯源性。任何一个计量结果，都能通过连续的比较链与原始的标准器具联系起来。溯源性是准确性和一致性的技术归宗。溯源可以使计量科技与人们的认识相对统一，从而使计量的准确与一致得到基本保证。④法制性。量值的准确统一，不仅要有一定的技术手段，而且还要有相应的法律和行政管理，特别是那些对国计民生有明显影响的计量，更必须有法制保障。否则，量值的准确统一便不能实现，计量的作用便无法发挥。
