补偿性货币政策 反经济周期并避免通货膨胀的政策措施。它要求货币当局或中央银行在一个经济周期内，随着经济情势的盛衰相应采取货币扩张或紧缩的措施，以调节经济并保持币值稳定。即在经济下降时期，银行扩大贷款，扩大货币供应，使利率降低，从而刺激投资，缓解危机。在经济过度扩张，通货膨胀时期，银行则收缩贷款，紧缩货币供应，使利率提高，以抑制社会需求，降低通货膨胀率。 第二次世界大战后，西方国家面临着既要防止经济危机又要避免通货膨胀两大难题。在实践中，稳定币值与经济增长往往难以兼顾。凯恩斯学派经济学家试图通过补偿性财政货币（金融）政策来解决这一矛盾。他们首先提出补偿性财政政策。为了在经济下降期间保持所希望的收入，通过增加政府支出，减少税收，扩大财政赤字的办法，来补偿私人开支和私人投资的减少。在经济过度扩张和通货膨胀时期，政府则减少开支，增加税收，保持财政结余，以压缩社会需求。在一个经济周期内保持财政收支大体平衡。以后这种政策发展为补偿性财政货币（金融）政策，即通过货币政策与财政政策的配合来完成反经济周期的任务。补偿性货币政策实际上是一种权衡性货币政策（见相机抉择货币政策）。
