嘧啶嘧啶pyrimidine1,3位含有两个氮杂原子的六元杂环化合物。分子式C4H4N2。与吡嗪和哒嗪互为同分异构体。它的衍生物广泛存在于有机体的核酸内,许多重要的药物含有这个环系。低熔点的晶体或液体。熔点22℃,沸点123~124℃。有臭味。溶于水和乙醇。呈弱碱性,与苦味酸和草酸等形成黄色结晶形物质。嘧啶及其同系物和硝基、卤代衍生物具有芳香性。氧化和亲电取代反应不活泼。亲核反应也不显著,仅4甲基嘧啶可与氨基钠反应生成2或4取代的氨基嘧啶。嘧啶和各种取代的嘧啶有多种方法合成。例如,巴比妥酸(2,4,6三羟基嘧啶)可由脲与丙二酸二乙酯在醇钠的作用下缩合而成。巴比妥酸与磷酰氯一起加热,得2,4,6三氯嘧啶,它与甲醇钠反应,又可得三甲氧基嘧啶。氯代嘧啶与氨或一级、二级胺反应,生成相应的氨基嘧啶。嘧啶的衍生物胞嘧啶、尿嘧啶和胸腺嘧啶,是核酸和脱氧核酸的组成部分,维生素B分子中的嘧啶部分是4氨基2甲基5嘧啶甲基的基团。许多口服的长效磺胺药是嘧啶及其异构体的衍生物。
