表面分凝  一般是指在平衡状态条件下,金属合金中的某种组分在自由表面的富集。例如,金属镍中极微量的铜会分凝到表面上去。不锈钢中的铬,经过一定的热处理后,也会分凝到表面上去。这种表面分凝现象,对于催化、腐蚀、微电子学以及和金属强度有关的晶粒间界的分凝都有很大的影响。    对表面分凝现象的解释,要追溯到一百年前J.W.吉布斯的固体和液体的表面势力学理论。吉布斯指出,金属合金的表面组分不一定和体内组分一样,某一种组分会分凝到表面上来,这种表面分凝有助于降低表面自由能。现在,认为促使表面分凝的"驱动力"有两个,即原子间的结合能和因原子大小不同而引起的点阵应变能。    建立在"正则溶液"理论基础上的键合模型,认为键合比较弱的元素,也就是升华热较低的元素富集在表面时其表面自由能最低。另一方面,从点阵应变模型来看,如溶质(即数量较少的元素)原子的大小和基体原子的大小相比有较大的差别,那么溶质原子分凝到表面上去,会减轻点阵的应变。在研究表面分凝问题时,通常要把两者结合起来考虑。但也还有一些实验结果不能简单地用上述二种模型来解释。当外界条件(如温度、气体吸附、离子轰击、辐照等)改变时,合金的表面为了达到新的热力学平衡,表面分凝的元素的种类和程度也会有相应的变化。    用表面分析的方法来研究表面分凝是直接和可靠的方法。如用电子激发脱附(ESD)、俄歇电子谱(AES)、X射线电子谱(XPS或ESCA)、离子散射谱(ISS)、背散射谱(BS)、次级离子质谱(SIMS)和原子探测束场离子显微镜 (APFIM)等方法可以探测到最表层和表面数层内的元素组分的分布状况(见表面物理学)。    参考书目   J.W.Gibbs,The Scientific papers of J.
