多调性 现代主义音乐的创作手法之一。指两个以上不同调性的同时结合。两个调性的结合一般称双调性。多调性（包括双调性）是从20世纪初开始的一种新的调性类型，是传统调性的一种特殊变体。它的每一个调性层次大都建立在传统调性的基础上，或具有传统调性的某些特点，如自然调式或明确的中心音等。但它又是调性思维复合化的表现，产生复杂的和声效果。重叠的调性之间关系愈远，则音响愈尖锐。由于多调性是源自传统而又打破传统的一种特殊手法，为一些现代作曲家所喜用。 多调性的渊源可追溯至欧洲中世纪的奥加农的平行四度或五度的声部进行，具有相距四度或五度的两个调的重叠作用。在18世纪的复调音乐中，四度或五度的完全模仿,也带有各声部调性重叠的作用。B.巴托克在1908年写的《十四首小曲》中的第1首,是现代多调性音乐中最早的作品之一。下例为该曲的开始部,上方声部为E大调，下方声部为C弗里吉亚调式，形成双调性： 其他应用多调性手法的作家有：I.F.斯特拉文斯基、M.拉韦尔、С.С.普罗科菲耶夫、P.欣德米特、K.希曼诺夫斯基、D.米约等人。其中法国作曲家米约由于广泛应用各种多调性手法而最为著名。
