万古蟾(1899～ ) 中国早期美术片的开拓者之一，剪纸片的创造者。1899年 1月 18日生于南京。万籁鸣的孪生兄弟,自幼喜好绘画。1921年毕业于上海美术专门学校，留校任西画教员。因酷爱动画电影，暇时常与其兄弟探索动画影像映现原理,并进行了多次试验,终于使画稿中的人物和山水动了起来。1925年，进入商务印书馆活动影戏部，与其兄弟一起制作《舒振东华文打字机》动画广告。1926～1940，万古蟾除在1927年独立完成滑稽动画短片《一封寄回来的信》外，与其兄弟万籁鸣、万超尘合作完成《大闹画室》、《国人速醒》、《民族痛史》、《龟兔赛跑》、《骆驼献舞》、《抗战歌辑》、《抗战标语》等动画短片多部，并在1940年与万籁鸣创作出中国第一部长动画片《铁扇公主》。他们的动画片运用了多种技巧，民族化装饰性趣味浓郁。 1956年万古蟾参加上海美术电影制片厂的导演工作，并开始剪纸影片的研究创制工作。在他?牧斓枷拢荒甓嗟姆锤词笛椋?1958年拍摄出中国第一部独具特色的剪纸片《猪八戒吃西瓜》。1959年以后，他又连续完成了《渔童》（获第二次全国少年儿童文艺创作二等奖）、《济公斗蟋蟀》、《龟猴分树》、《人参娃娃》（获第1届亚历山大国际电影节最佳儿童片奖）,并与钱运达联合导演了《金色的海螺》（获第 3届亚非电影节卢蒙巴奖）等剪纸片。这些剪纸影片在艺术形式上吸收了中国皮影、窗花、剪纸等民间艺术的表现技巧，采用雕镂刻剪的工艺手法，具有多种艺术风格。有的影片的人物造型细腻，富有个性特征，有的则粗犷奔放，他们在银幕上多彩多姿,栩栩如生。背景设计线条明快,色彩和谐，古朴典雅，这些影片是中国美术电影中一个新的片种。
