制丝制丝silkmaking用桑蚕茧或柞蚕茧作原料制成生丝或柞蚕丝的工艺过程。也包括蚕茧干燥和贮藏，其目的是杀死新鲜茧腔内的活蛹和寄生蝇卵，保证茧层不受损伤；并去除适量水分，使蚕茧干燥，不致霉烂变质，便于贮藏。在蚕茧贮藏中要加强温、湿度控制和采取防虫、防鼠措施。桑蚕茧一般采用干茧缫丝。柞蚕茧在冬春采用鲜茧缫丝，但到4月以后，即蛹变蛾前，必须把杀蛹干茧入库贮藏。制丝工艺过程包括混茧、剥茧、选茧、煮茧、缫丝、复摇、整理、检验等工序。混茧、剥茧和选茧是缫丝前的准备工序，其目的是将蚕茧按一定比例均匀混合，以扩大批量，稳定缫丝生产；剥去茧衣，以利于选茧；剔除不能缫丝的下茧和难以缫丝的次茧，分选出上茧中的大型茧或小型茧。煮茧和缫丝是制丝工艺中的关键工序。煮茧是利用水和热的作用，有时也添加化学助剂，把茧丝外围的丝胶适当膨润、软和，使茧丝间的胶着力小于茧丝的湿润强力，以便缫丝时茧丝能连续不断地依次离解。煮茧后桑蚕茧即可缫丝，而柞蚕丝还必须经过化学药品处理（称漂茧）后才可缫丝。缫丝是根据生丝的规格要求，集合若干粒煮熟茧的茧丝，顺序离解、卷绕，并不断补充新的煮熟茧，缫成生丝。复摇是把缫丝时卷绕在小上的生丝重新卷绕成大丝片状或筒装生丝的过程。整理是指把大丝片摇成绞再打成包的过程。生丝的品质检验内容有：回潮率、重量、丝片宽度或筒子直径、生丝的弹力、强力、伸长度和抱合等。
