中华大蟾蜍(癞疙疱、癞蛤蟆、癞肚子)国内分布于东北、华北、华东、华中、西北、西南年省区。国外分布在俄罗斯、朝鲜。皮肤极粗糙,背面密布大小不等的圆形瘰粒。有耳后腺。头部无骨质棱,腹面黑斑极显著。体长79-120毫米。栖居草丛、石下或土洞中,黄昏爬出捕食。产卵季节因地而异,卵在管状胶质的卵带内交错排成四行。卵带缠绕在水草上,每只产卵2000-8000粒。成蟾在水底泥土或烂草中冬眠。其蝌蚪喜成群朝同一方向游动。分布广泛,而且在不同海拔的各种生境中数量很多。不仅是农作物、牧草和森林害虫的天敌,而且是动物药——蟾酥的药源。但要合理开发利用,不能乱捕滥捉。
