中国佛教音乐中国佛教音乐中国佛教在佛事仪式上使用的宗教音乐。佛教音乐源于印度。佛教认为音乐有“供养”、“颂佛”的作用，佛教传入中国后，许多高僧在译经的同时，也将印度、西域的佛教音乐传入中国内地，当时称梵呗。但由于汉、梵语音不同，印度佛教音乐的曲调难以在中国流传。为了弘扬佛法，遂“改梵为秦”，用中国的曲调配唱汉译经文，相传最早进行这方面尝试的是三国魏曹植。魏晋时已出现了与印度佛教音乐不同的由中国人创制的佛教音乐。南北朝时期随着佛教的传播，佛教音乐在民间流传，出现了许多擅长佛教音乐的高僧。梁武帝崇尚佛教，积极倡导佛教音乐，为中国佛教音乐的发展提供了有利的条件。在各地还逐步形成了各自的地方特色。唐代是中国佛教音乐的鼎盛时期，在吸收、融合民间音乐和古乐的基础上，创作、演唱、演奏均已达到较高水平。唐代佛曲曲目很多，还出现了以说唱形式弘扬佛法的俗讲。宋元明清诸代对佛教音乐进行了进一步的加工整理。明永乐二年（1404）明成祖搜集、整理唐、宋、元以来流行的佛教音乐曲调400余首，编成《诸佛世尊如来菩萨尊者名称歌曲》流行于世，并远传越南、缅甸。近代佛教音乐继承了明清的传统。常州天宁寺、宁波天童寺、北京智化寺、扬州大明寺及山西五台山诸寺等均为音乐活动较有名的寺院。1986年3月北京佛教音乐团在北京广化寺成立，其主旨是整理、继承、研究智化寺自明代流传下来的京音乐。佛教音乐主要用于各种佛事仪式，形式有声乐、器乐等多种，声乐曲调有赞、偈、咒、白等主要格式；器乐主要演奏曲牌，各地各寺不尽相同。在早晚课诵、祝圣等宗教仪式中，各著名寺院演奏时一般都只使用被称为法器的磬、引磬、木鱼、铛、钟鼓等打击乐器。在其他佛事仪式上，特别是在民间应赴的佛事仪式上，各地使用的乐器各有地方特色，不完全相同，除打击乐器外还有采用吹管乐器和丝弦乐器的。
