细胞融合技术 是一种新的获得杂交细胞以改变细胞性能的技术。细胞融合可以在分类学上亲缘关系较远的生物之间进行，因此它不但是菌种改良的一种重要手段，而且是动物或植物品种改良的一种有潜力的方法。 这种技术所采用的方法，首先是用能溶解细胞壁的特殊水解酶，将微生物或植物细胞的细胞壁溶解而形成原生质体（若是动物细胞无细胞壁可省去这一步）；然后在灭活病毒或聚乙二醇等融合促进剂的作用下将两亲本的原生质体进行融合。融合开始形成的是具有双核的异核体，继而经有丝分裂形成单核的杂交原生质体；杂交原生质体在细胞壁再生后就具有繁殖能力。进行融合的两个亲本细胞应各有其标记（如营养缺陷型、抗药性等），以便确定其是否获得了杂交细胞。由于细胞融合大多在原生质体水平上进行，所以也常称原生质体融合。 目前，细胞融合技术在菌种改良上已被较广泛地采用，但最为有效的是杂交瘤技术的建立和单克隆抗体的生产。这是指将动物的脾脏细胞（具有产生多种抗体机能的B淋巴细胞,但不能离体生长）和骨髓瘤细胞（能离体无限制地生长）相融合，使获得一些具有能离体生长且仅能产生单一抗体的杂交瘤，它的产品即为单克隆抗体，用于诊断和治疗。
