索伊默,J.G. 德国作家、政论家、诗人。生于魏森费尔斯附近波塞尔纳村一穷苦农民家庭。13岁丧父,由地主贵族资助就学于拉丁文中学。17岁入莱比锡大学,被指定攻读神学。但他自愿听历史、哲学和古典文学课。1781年离开莱比锡,在去巴黎途中落入黑森征兵者的手中,被卖到美国作战。1783年返回祖国后,又被普鲁士征兵者拿获。1787年始获准脱离军队。随后在莱比锡工作,并进修法律和语言文学。曾在华沙任私人秘书,在莱比锡任校对工作。1801年徒步去意大利旅行,最后到达西西里岛的锡腊库扎。次年经巴黎返回莱比锡。1805年去俄国、芬兰和瑞典旅行。1808年后贫病交迫,不久逝世。 索伊默闻名于当时的著作是书信体游记《漫步去锡腊库扎》,记述了他在意大利的所见所闻。那时正值拿破仑打败了奥地利军队之后,意大利满目疮痍,民不聊生,土地荒芜,而贵族和僧侣却过着豪华生活。在《我的1805年之夏》中,他描述了俄国的农奴制社会的黑暗,以及法军对德国的侵占。作品在德国南方(法占区)、奥地利和俄国被禁止流传。1806至1807年写的评论社会、宗教和哲学问题的警句集《伪经书》和用拉丁文写的《普卢塔克序言》也被禁止刊行。 索伊默从1781年被贩卖到美洲直到去世,所经历的30年是欧洲最动荡不安的革命大变动时期。他认为封建特权制度是德国人民和德意志民族灾难的根源。他写过一些反映现实的诗,如著名的《野蛮人》,但他主要是作为政论家和当代史实的记录者而为后世重视。
