盐腺盐腺salt-secretinggland；saltgland部分鸟类和爬行类所具有的排盐腺体。因位于眶部，所以又称眶腺。分泌物的主要成分是氯化钠。生活在海边和海中的海鸟、海蜥蜴等动物的盐腺尤为发达，用于排出体内多余的盐分借以保持体液的渗透平衡。具有盐腺的动物，其盐腺开口的部位可以有所不同，例如，加拉帕哥斯的海鬣蜥的盐腺开口于鼻腔前部；海蛇的舌下盐腺开口于口腔。海鸟的每个眼眶上面有一个盐腺，开口于鼻腔，故又称鼻盐腺。陆上生活的鸟类，这种腺体不发达。盐腺分成许多叶，每叶有一条中央管，中央管上又有许多分泌小管，各中央管汇集于总导管，开口于体外。盐腺在平时是不分泌的，只在喝下海水或吃了含盐多的食物后才开始分泌。其分泌物主要是氯化钠，有机物很少。各种海鸟鼻盐腺分泌物中，钠的浓度亦不相同，吃浮游甲壳动物的一种海燕，鼻盐腺分泌物中的钠浓度最高，可达1100毫摩尔／升，海鬣蜥吃海藻，海藻中含钾多，故其盐腺分泌物中主要是钾而不是钠。鸟类和爬行类肾脏的浓缩能力很差，海鸥也如此，但由于海鸥有盐腺，其分泌物的钠浓度远超过海水的钠浓度，因此海鸥能很好地适应海域生活与盐腺的排钠功能有密切的关系。鱼类没有特殊的盐腺，海产真骨鱼通过鳃排出多余的钠离子，板鳃鱼则通过直肠腺来排多余的盐类。海产哺乳动物也没有盐腺，但其肾脏的浓缩力很强，尿中的钠浓度可高达820毫摩尔／升，已大大超过海水的钠浓度，不难排出进入体内的过多的盐类，以适应海域生活。肾脏浓缩能力差又无盐腺的动物都不能喝海水，因为排出盐的同时要排出大量的水，会有导致脱水的危险。
