乌桕乌桕Sapiumsebiferum;Chinesetallowtree大戟科乌桕属落叶乔木。又称桕子、木子。种子被蜡皮,可取固体油桕脂(皮油);种仁可榨液体油桕油(梓油)。二者均为重要的化工原料。桕饼可作饲料和燃料,也是优质有机肥料。果壳、子壳可制糠醛和活性炭。木材纹理致密,坚韧耐用,可作家具、农具等。花为蜜源。耐水湿、抗风力强,树形美、秋季红叶,可作行道树、庭园绿化及护岸树种。树冠近球形。叶近菱形或菱状卵形,叶柄顶端具2腺体。花单性,雌雄同株,雄花3朵形成小聚伞花序,再集生为柔荑状复花序,雌花通常5~15,生于花序的下部。蒴果近扁球形,熟时黑褐色。种子黑色,外被白蜡,固着于中轴上,经冬不落(见图)。图片乌桕按开花习性和果序特点分为葡萄桕和鸡爪桕两个变种。乌桕适于高温、多湿、短日照的条件,其中心产区年平均气温在16~19℃,年降水量在1000~1500毫米。适宜江、河、湖的冲积土,其次是深厚而熟化的红壤和紫色土。对土壤酸碱度的适应性较强,耐水湿。对氟化氢气体有较强的抗性。选15~40年生实生树作为采种母树。种子经去蜡处理后,3月条播育种,1年生苗高达1米左右可作砧木,嫁接容易成活。此外可在夏、秋季用芽接。
