垂直带性  在达到一定高度的山地,自然地理环境各组成成分及其构成的自然综合体随高度变化而出现的分异和分布现象。又称高度带性。形成垂直带的背景是构造隆起的山体,直接原因是气温随高度增加而迅速降低。太阳辐射强度随山地高度的增加而增大,但地面长波辐射也随山地高度而迅速加强,因而导致辐射差额(见辐射平衡)的显著降低和气温的快速下降,垂直温度梯度(约每千米5~6℃)比纬度水平方向的温度梯度可大上千倍,在高差几千米内可出现近似热带至极地的变化。气温和气压随高度而下降有利于水汽的凝结,在迎风坡降水常随高度而递增,但超过最大降水线或云带后便随高度增加而减少。气候的垂直变化引起植被、 土壤、 动物群落、水文乃至地貌某些特征的相应变化。    垂直带通常以各类植被和土壤为主要标志,并结合水热条件和地貌等特点进行划分。垂直带的数量及其组合结构形式称为垂直带谱。垂直带谱的结构主要取决于其所处的地理位置和山体本身的特点。当山体达到足够高度时上部常可出现永久冰雪带。低纬地区的高山,下起热带雨林带上至永久冰雪带,具有最复杂、最完备的带谱。从低纬至高纬,带谱结构逐趋简单,各带分布的高度也逐渐降低,乃至尖灭。高纬地区山地仅有苔原带至永久冰雪带。从沿海至内陆,各带谱的差异也很明显。沿海湿润型垂直带谱常以多种山地森林为主,顶部积雪也较丰富。内陆干燥型垂直带谱常缺乏森林带,常以荒漠带至山地草原、高山草甸等顺序更替。过渡区的特点介于两者之间。此外,山体的相对高度、坡向、排列状况和区域地形的变化等也可影响垂直带的性质。屏障作用大的山体,其迎风坡与背风坡带谱的结构有不同。当山间盆地或谷地的水热条件出现异常时,可发生某些带序倒置的现象。    垂直带的类型虽多,但分布零星、间断。它是在地带性与非地带性两个基本地域分异规律共同控制下发育而成的,既有地表水平分异因素影响的烙印,也有自己的组成、结构和成因等特点。
